* “Nuevo estadounidense estadounidense” es un término que lo abarca todo e incluye a inmigrantes, refugiados y sus hijos. Reconoce que las familias recién llegadas pueden atesorar sus orígenes culturales y al mismo tiempo aprender y contribuir a sus nuevas comunidades estadounidenses. Sirve para reconocer el sacrificio y la contribución de los inmigrantes de primera y segunda generación a los Estados Unidos, y la herencia de la que provienen.
El Consejo Asesor del IRRC decidió agregar Estados Unidos al término para reconocer la historia y los sentimientos de alienación que muchas partes de América Latina experimentan cuando se usa “estadounidense” para describir únicamente a los Estados Unidos. Al agregar “EE.UU.” a New American, honramos la historia y la identidad de nuestros compañeros latinoamericanos en América del Norte, Central y del Sur.
* “New US American” is an all-encompassing term that includes immigrants, refugees and their children. It recognizes that newcomer families can both treasure their cultural backgrounds, while also learning from and contributing to their new US communities. It serves to recognize the sacrifice and contribution of first and second-generation immigrants to the United States, and the heritage from which they come.
The IRRC Advisory Council elected to add US to the term to recognize the history and feelings of alienation many parts of Latin America experience when “American” is used to solely describe the United States. By adding “US” to New American, we honor the history and identity of our fellow Latin Americans in North, Central, and South America.
